The Warraan (River) by Aunty Irene (Min) ‘Burrima’ Riley

The Wambuul (Winding River - Macquarie) Warraan (River) and Ewenmar (Respected Place) Creek are two significant waterways that are of importance to our local Warren Wayilwan mob. It was on the waterways of Wayilwan Country that ceremonies and trade, involving large gatherings of the local Wayilwan and neighbouring Nations, took place. The rivers and creeks were also an important source of food.

Aunty Min sees the river as special to her own personal experience growing up on the banks of the Ewenmar Creek (a tributary of the Wambuul) at the Beemunnel Reserve Aboriginal Place near Warren.
