Shamika Kentwell
Shamika is an emerging talented artist, junior leader and art student with Warraan Widji Arts .
Shamika’s passion for art was ignited at age 8. Mum, Chloe, encouraged Shamika to develop her art and gave Shamika her first sketch book. Up until age 17 Shamika was self taught and had no formal art lessons. Tips and encouragement from her Uncle Will and Peter Mackay, however, helped Shamika to develop her skills.
In 2023 Visual Design was offered as a HSC subject at the local school and Warraan Widji Arts began sponsoring Shamika to have additional art lessons with local artist Jude Fleming. Shamika is passionate about pursuing her talent. Shamika says that although she is no longer with us, Allison Fuller, beloved Aboriginal Education Officer at Warren Central School for over twenty years, still provides Shamika with inspiration not to give up.
In 2023 Shamika won the NSW Department of Communities and Justice art prize for all Secondary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students living Central West and Western NSW.
