Reason and Purpose
Providing Backing Music
for the First Nations’ Wayilwan Choir
It is extremely important to the Dreaming Drifters to support the Wayilwan Choir.
It is vital that the Dreaming Drifters are not independent of the Choir but that they strengthen the capacity of Wayilwan Language revival through learning the music pieces which the Choir sing in Language
Origins of the name Dreaming Drifters
Uncle John Lane has passed on a legacy to Warraan Widji Arts, that of always doing things with reason and purpose.
The name Dreaming Drifters was crafted by Zoey and Jerome. The word Dreaming has five meanings for band members:
the talent that one has is referred to as your ‘dreaming’ (Aunty Beth Wright) - to pursue and develop your dreaming is very important
the Dreamtime, our ancestors watch over them
living the dream, drifting all over the country performing
dreaming of a bright future
it’s context in relation to the first song the Wayilwan Choir sang and recorded in Language - Ngiyani-garra Australian (We are Australian) - ‘we share our dreams’
