Jude Fleming

Jude Fleming was born in New Zealand and came to Australia and the Outback in 1985. Jude has always drawn and majored in art at school, but her formal training began at TAFE in Dubbo, soon after arriving in Warren. She has since completed a Bachelor of Fine Art degree, majoring in painting, at National Art School, Sydney.

Jude is a landscape painter, drawn to country by its majesty and magnetism. She seeks a sense of place and a sense of space and the experience of the place in her acrylic and mixed media paintings. Her work is expressionistic, leaning towards abstract, guided and informed by immersion in the landscape and by immediate and direct response to the subject.

Jude’s recent paintings have been greatly influenced by a quote about Peter Lanyon’s painting - “… he created a distinctive fusion of landscape and abstract elements, advocating that art could be both technically audacious and rooted in a sense of locality”.

Jude Fleming is a multidisciplinary artist – drawing, painting, making collages and artist books. She shares her passion for art making with weekly classes @ Westwing Studio, Warren and is also passionate about spreading the many values and benefits of art making as a means of self-expression and as a valid vehicle and outlet for emotion. She recently received a commendation from the NSW State Parliament as recognition for more than 30 years community commitment to the Arts.

”Art has the role of helping students become more like themselves instead of like everyone else”. Sydney Gurewitz Clemens.
