Janet Blishen

Janet hails originally from Wellington, New Zealand. She has lived on Wayilwan Country since 2014 where she feels very much at home. After working for Auscott for 5 years as Finance and Administration Manager, Janet made the decision to start her own business working as the sole practitioner of Bush Accounting Services.

Janet’s passion for music originates from her musical family. Her late father, Gordon Blishen, played the trumpet all his life. Her sister, Mo Blishen is the founder and lead singer of Agatha Pantha, a Wellington based band.

Janet is an accomplished musician beginning music lessons at age 5. Janet fell in love with the violin at age 12. She has taken lessons from many accomplished music teachers throughout her life to grow her musicality. Janet tutors in a variety of instruments, including guitar, violin and viola.

In addition, Janet is passionate about musical theatre. Janet has performed on stage at the Wellington Repertory Theatre as Chloris in the production of Henry Fielding’s Lock Up Your Daughters. She has also performed in the Chorus of Canterbury Music Theatre’s production of Singing in the Rain.

Janet is a lover of all kinds of music and is keen to encourage young people to indulge their passion for making music. She is quick to build a rapport with young people and has high level cultural competencies.

She believes that obtaining the skills in playing an instrument should be a fun and an enjoyable journey.
