The tree carvings of our Ngiyambaa Wayilwan ancestors are known as markers for significant ceremonies and burials. There were once thousands of carved trees in Central and Western NSW and southern Queensland. The carvings were maintained by our ancestors over many years until the arrival of Europeans who destroyed many of the trees. The patterns carved into the tree required great physical strength and were unique to the ceremony or the person who had died. Patterns took the shape of geometrical lines, concentric circles and curves.

Aunty Min sees the continuation of the designs through her art as an important part in keeping our Ngiyambaa Wayilwan culture alive.
